At a cricket ground, noise levels are constant. Horns blasting. thumping of the drums. the sporadic flirtation. The ball is then caught by him.
The ball is then caught by him.
There’s a startling silence over Green Park. When he reaches the top of his mark, they wait. The sound of the bat hitting the ground is heard as Mehidy Hasan Miraz delivers a strike. When Jasprit Bumrah begins his run-up, twenty thousand pairs of eyes gravitate towards him. The quiet is going to break. And it’s more than just sounds this time. It is melodies.
The crowd yells, “Whoooooohhhhhhhhhhh” as Bumrah picks up speed. They let out an audible “Oooooooohhhhhh” as Mehidy quickly responds and dabs the ball to point. They are now able to keep themselves busy without the need for distractions. Gautam Gambhir has a point. This individual is now well-known throughout society.
People like Bumrah are the reason India thought a result in Kanpur was attainable. The first innings was still in progress at the beginning of the fourth day. Although India had outlined measures to advance the game, there was no assurance that everything would go according to plan. During the post-match presentation, Rohit Sharma stated that they were ready to go out for 200 runs. The answer is, of course, no. In 34.4 overs, they declared after scoring 285 runs.
Before stumps, they added two wickets from the second innings to the seven they had taken earlier in the day. India went all out on the fourth day of play. The fifth, especially towards the finish, turned into a time to reflect on everything they had accomplished.
R Midway through the match, Ashwin moves from his position to embrace Bumrah as he makes his way back to his mark. It appears to be a rather one-sided conversation. Bumrah raises both of his hands and presses them together, saying “hi” and “bye” in a manner akin to how people bid each other farewell. Ashwin is unresponsive. He keeps hyping up his bowling partner.
Additionally, Axar Patel weighs in from the mid-off. They both clap Bumrah on during the 37th over, when it was becoming increasingly evident that India was going to achieve the unlikely outcome they had set out to achieve.
The crowd lets out a whooooooohhhhhhhh as Bumrah picks up speed once more. Mehidy is stuck behind since she can’t handle this one. After testing Taijul Islam, the newbie, with a few short ones and a sneaky full one in between, Bumrah picks up his cap and returns to his fielding position. He glances up to see Ashwin clapping him slowly. In exchange, he salutes him.
During the last moments of the drink break, Rishabh Pant is seen lingering near the stumps and tinkering with something. There is a tiny red light flash. He was adjusting the bails. He had turned them over to see if India’s fortunes would change. Only one wicket has been offered in the opening hour of play. Seven are produced by the next. Maybe it was the bails that caused it. Alternatively, it could be related to how Ravindra Jadeja joined the attack.
Throughout this series, he was the final bowler India looked to in each innings. Bangladesh is a left-handed-heavy country, thus it may have played a role. Jadeja uses his second ball to take out one of them. It terminates a period of play where Bangladesh made 55 runs in 13.4 overs and heralds one where Bangladesh lose seven wickets for 55 runs.
A Test-match win after only 52 overs of batting and 121.2 overs of bowling. That’s something to savour and savour they do.
