Two modifications have been made to India’s home season schedule by the BCCI: the first Twenty20 International match against Bangladesh will now take place in Gwalior on October 6 instead of Dharamsala, and the first and second Twenty20 International matches against England will now take place in Chennai and Kolkata in January 2025, respectively.
According to a BCCI release, “upgrades and renovation work being carried out by the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association in the dressing rooms” forced the venue change for the first Twenty20 International match versus Bangladesh from Dharamsala to Gwalior.
In the past two years, Dharamsala has been stripped of two international matches; this is the second one. The third India-Australia test was decided to be moved to Indore in February 2023 due to the inadequacy of the Dharamsala outfield.
The first international match at the recently constructed Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium will be a Twenty20 International versus Bangladesh. It will also be the first match in the city since 2010—the year that Sachin Tendulkar achieved a historic double-century in men’s ODIs.
Chennai was supposed to host the first Twenty20 International on January 22 and Kolkata the second on January 25, but the dates have since been switched for England’s tour of India in 2025. “The venue change was necessitated following a request from Kolkata Police to the Cricket Association of Bengal regarding their prior Republic Day commitments and obligations,” according to the BCCI.
Beginning with two Tests and three Twenty20 Internationals against Bangladesh from September 19 to October 12, India’s 2024–25 home international season will see three Test matches against New Zealand from October 16 to November 5.
Following a five-Test match tour of Australia (November 22–January 7), India will return home to face England for five T20Is and three T20Is (January 22–February 12). India’s only planned 50-over matches before the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan are the ODIs against England.
