[Saba Sports News] India pacer Mohammad Shami, who played his first match in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Sunday, picked up a five-wicket haul at Dharamsala, helping his team bundle out New Zealand at a total of 273 runs.
New Zealand, after losing the toss, lost both their openers during the powerplay. However, a 159-run third-wicket partnership between Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell provided stability. Nevertheless, India made a great comeback with Shami leading the fightback.
Shami, who returned to international cricket after almost a month, made a resounding comeback by taking a fifer, dismissing Will Young (17), Ravindra (75), Mitchell (130), Mitchell Santner (1) and Matt Henry (0).

Furthermore, the 33-year-old pacer has taken four or more wickets five times in the in ODI World Cups, making him the second joint-highest alongside Imran Tahir after Mitchell Starc (6).
He has now overtaken Anil Kumble in the list of most wickets taken for India in the ODI World Cups. Shami has claimed 36 scalps across three editions and is now third on this list after Zaheer Khan (44) and Javagal Srinath (44).
