Mokhtar Dahary (born 13 November 1953 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) is a professional football player. He is a striker for Selangor Football Club. He started playing football at a young age and is considered one of the best footballers Malaysia has ever produced. He made his debut at the age of 18, when he represented the Selangor youth team in the Burnley Youth Cup. Selangor won the game. Later, in his debut season with Selangor FC, he was named top scorer. He scored a total of 177 goals and helped the team win the Malaysia Cup. The following year, in 1972, he played his first international match as a member of the Malaysian national football team. He made his international debut against Sri Lanka. He was 19 years old. Dahari helped the Malaysian national team win the 1974 Asian Games. Since then, he has earned the nickname “Supermokh” for his strength, speed, agility and accuracy. He also helped Malaysia win the SEA Games gold medal twice, once in 1977 and again in 1979. Because of his skills, he attracted the attention of international football clubs such as Real Madrid. However, he turned down all offers as he was loyal to his country and the Selangor club. He was even recorded as saying: “I live for Selangor and die for Selangor.” In 1986, Dahari played his last match against Johor, helping Selangor beat their opponents 6-1 to win the title again. In 1986, after helping Selangor win the Malaysia Cup, Mokhtar Dahari decided to retire. The following year, however, he did play one more season for his beloved team. After retiring, he decided to become a coach to mentor promising football players. He even sometimes coached his former team, Selangor.
