Basit Ali, a former cricketer for Pakistan, is rooting for Mohammad Rizwan to take Babar Azam’s place as the Men in Green’s next captain. Babar may be about to experience the high point of his career as the white-ball captain. There have been rumours circulating lately that Rizwan is the front-runner to succeed Babar. Fans and former Pakistani cricket players have responded to the reports in different ways. After seeing Rizwan captain Markhors against Stallions in the Champions One-Day Cup, Basit supported him to captain the Pakistani team.
He emphasised that Babar and Test captain Shan Masood are not as skilled as Rizwan in reading the nature of the pitch.
“The way Rizwan led the side, he proved there is no better skipper than him. He has shown it with his captaincy. He read the pitch; it is a big thing. Even Babar can’t do that. I am not even talking about Shan. If you don’t make him captain at this time, then it is a loss for Pakistan. This is the best time you should make Rizwan the captain,” Basit said on his YouTube channel.
The topic of captaincy in Pakistan has been the most talked-about in recent times. The carousel has seen captains changed at will without any tangible reward for the changes.
Currently, Babar leads the white-ball sides after Shaheen Afridi was ousted from the same role after a solitary series. Shan Masood is the leader of the Test side.
