Pochettino said: “Palmer is a great player who connects all his team-mates. We started him on the right, played him in between the opposition defence and he was ready because he was unpredictable. In football you need to be unpredictable and he has the ability to do that. We already have a good connection in the midfield area and Gallagher makes a lot of runs there, which is very important. He is very professional and can play in different positions like eight, 10 and six. He is a B2B player, good at running, finishing and delivering assists, as he did against Burnley, and we are very happy with him.”

Speaking about the team’s injury situation, Pochettino said: “We have a lot of players injured, some key players are not able to train and play with us, which has a big impact. You can see for a club like Manchester City how much it affects them when Rodri or de Bruyne are out and it’s just two players. As far as we are concerned, we miss key players who can help us improve faster and yes, when all our players are fit, we will definitely be ready to fight for something important. Even now we need to keep the belief that we can compete no matter what the situation is.”
