Former Indian batsman Sanjay Manjrekar offered his condolences to Virat Kohli following the latter’s DRS error on Friday on Day 2 of the first Test match between Bangladesh and India in Chennai. The on-field umpire declared Kohli leg before wicket, and the ace batsman for India chose not to request a DRS review.
Replays, however, revealed that the ball had struck the inside edge of his bat, and the umpire’s call would have been overturned in the event of a DRS review. Manjrekar discussed the event on social media, stating that Kohli probably decided to maintain all of the reviews that supported his position.
“Felt bad for Virat today. He obviously didn’t think he had hit it. Just wanted to know from Gill if ball was hitting stumps. Despite Gill encouraging him to go for the review anyway he walked away dejected wanting to keep the 3 reviews for his team,” Manjrekar posted on X (formerly called Twitter).
On the second day of the first Test match against Bangladesh on Friday, India reached 81 for three at stumps in the second innings, increasing their advantage to 308 runs overall.
When the stumps for the day were drawn, Shubman Gill (33 not out) and Rishabh Pant (12 not out) were at the crease.
The hosts jumped up to a commanding lead of 227 runs in the first innings after Bangladesh was all out for a pitiful 149.
Bangladesh could only manage 47.1 overs in response to India’s 376 in the first innings.
