[Saba Sports News] New Zealand have a World Cup match to play on Wednesday, November 1 in Pune but the injury issues are haunting them.
Their regular captain Kane Williamson is suffering from an injured left thumb, while their pacer Lockie Ferguson hurt his right Achilles in the game against Australia and could only bowl three overs before going out of the field.
The Kiwi stand-in skipper Tom Latham provided on update on the duo ahead of the side’s upcoming clash.
Latham shared that they will be able to make the decision on their selections after the training session on the eve of the match.
“Yeah, just as I said before, there’s Lockie, Kane and Mark Chapman. We’ll obviously get through hopefully a bit of work today and then we’ll see how they pull up from a selection point of view. But yeah, obviously, Lockie went off in the last game with a bit of Achilles’ niggle, so fingers crossed he’ll be fine for tomorrow,” Latham was quoted as saying.
Although New Zealand sit pretty on the points table at the third position with four wins in six matches, they have lost their last two fixtures and another defeat could derail their campaign.
