[Saba Sports News] After the conclusion of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Team India will continue to be on the road. They have a home series lined up for 5 five T20I matches against Australia. This series is set to kick off on 23rd November with the first fixture scheduled to take place in Visakhapatnam.
As the saying goes, “there’s no rest for the weary”, the team will continue to play matches in Thiruvananthapuram, Guwahati, Nagpur, and Hyderabad on 26th November, 28th November, 1st December and 3rd December respectively.
However, there are reports suggesting that former India cricketer and head of cricket at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), VVS Laxman will be appointed as the interim coach for the T20 series against Australia in the place of Rahul Dravid. Dravid’s contract as the head coach of India is coming to an end as he was appointed in November 2021 only until the World Cup 2023.
Laxman has prior coaching experience with the side and was also appointed as the coach for the three-match T20I series played against Ireland in September recently.
“VVS Laxman has always been in charge when Rahul has taken a break and same thing is likely to continue for the series just after the World Cup,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying to PTI.
Additionally, it will be interesting to see whether Indian selectors will consider Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who last played a T20I against England in the ICC Men’s T20I World Cup 2022 semi-final. The chances of Rohit and Kohli’s selection for the series look bleak as they have been playing regular cricket in the and will most probably skip the series along with Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah. Also, the BCCI selectors have not openly confirmed if the duo is dropped or rested from India’s T20I outfit.
