[Saba Sports News] On November 6th, former Chelsea
star Andre Schurrle celebrates his 33rd birthday. ESPN has published a
pre-birthday article reflecting on the career of the German international.
Schurrle gained fame during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, notably providing the
assist for Mario Gotze’s winning goal in the final against Argentina. However,
a regrettable incident occurred in October when he traveled to Poland with the
German national team for the European qualifiers. Schurrle contracted a severe
case of salmonella from consuming contaminated chicken. It took doctors a week
of examination to diagnose the cause of his illness, which left Schurrle
weakened and caused him to lose four to five kilograms of weight. This illness
had a detrimental effect on Schurrle’s overall condition, ultimately leading
him to announce his retirement at the age of 29.
