[Saba Sports News] Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa acknowledged that the team was feeling down after losing their first two World Cup matches but highlighted how they rallied together and supported each other to perform better.
Zampa played a pivotal role with the ball in Australia’s first win of the World Cup, helping them defeat Sri Lanka by 5 wickets. He took four crucial wickets to trigger a middle-order collapse after Sri Lanka’s strong opening partnership. Despite dealing with back spasms before the match, Zampa’s performance was instrumental in Australia’s victory.
Reflecting on his performance and the team’s state after early losses, Zampa said, “After the first two games, there’s definitely a flat feeling in the change rooms. We all know that we could do our roles a little bit better, particularly in those first two games. But we know, as Boss (Coach Justin Langer) said, we get backed into a corner, and guys step up, and we get on a roll, then anything can happen.”
Zampa also emphasized that individual figures matter less to him than making a positive impact on the game and contributing to the team’s success. He expressed his commitment to giving his best and helping Australia win.
Regarding rumors about the pressure on skipper Pat Cummins, Zampa stated that the team fully supports each other, and there is no pressure on Cummins within the group. Australia is looking forward to their upcoming match against Pakistan, aiming to continue their momentum in the tournament.
