Alyssa Healy, the vice captain of Australia and
wicketkeeper for the Sydney Sixers, has been formally ruled out of the whole
WBBL season after consulting with her physician on her horrific finger injury.
She is now in a hurry to recover in time for Australia’s December multiformat
trip of India.
Healy was trying to separate her puppies at home last
weekend when she was accidently bitten, severely cutting her right index
finger. An artery had been severed, but there was no damage to the bone or
tendon, therefore the accident required surgery.
“This is not the news I was hoping for because I
love playing in the WBBL and I love the Sydney Sixers,” Healy said.
“My focus now will be on making a full recovery and returning to play when
the time is right.
“I’ll continue to spend time with the Sixers
squad and offer any help I can to help the team and the club thrive for the
rest of the competition.
“I’ll enjoy being able to watch the WBBL from
afar as the tournament continues to go from strength to strength.”
The tour of India in December and January will be the
next goal, and a timeline for her return to playing will be decided in the
coming weeks following additional recovery. For the majority of this year,
Healy has served as Australia’s interim captain following Meg Lanning’s injury
that kept her out of the Ashes and the most recent series against the West
Indies.
The white-ball matches will come after the Test match,
which is anticipated to take place sometime before Christmas, to commence the
India tour.
