[Saba Sports News] Golden State Warriors veteran Andre Iguodala confirmed his retirement from the NBA on Friday, concluding a remarkable 19-season career at the age of 39.
Iguodala explained his decision, stating, “It’s just the right time.” He expressed a desire to prioritize family and mentioned his 16-year-old son and two daughters as important factors in his decision.
In addition to retirement, Iguodala is embarking on a new career as a startup investor. He is set to lead a $200 million venture capital fund called Mosaic, recently launched with his business partner Rudy Cline-Thomas, according to The New York Times.
Throughout his illustrious career, Iguodala achieved career averages of 11.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. He initially made a name for himself with the Philadelphia 76ers, earning an All-Star selection in 2012 while averaging nearly 20 points per game. Upon joining the Golden State Warriors in 2013, he embraced a different role focused on defense and playmaking, contributing significantly to the team’s dynasty and winning four NBA championships, including the Finals MVP honor in 2015. He also earned All-Defensive First Team honors during his tenure with the Warriors.
Over his career, Iguodala had stints with the Denver Nuggets and the Miami Heat, playing a key role in each team’s success, including an appearance in the NBA Finals with the Heat in 2019-20.
Iguodala’s career accomplishments include over $185 million in estimated earnings, gold medals from the 2012 Olympics and the 2010 FIBA World Championships, and a memorable highlight reel.
