Australia will embark on a multi-format women’s series
tour of India in late December, which will include three ODIs, three T20Is, and
a Test match.
The T20Is will be held at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi
Mumbai, while the one-off women’s Test and three ODIs will be held at the
Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The ICC Women’s Championship will not include the
ODIs.
This comes after England’s tour of India comes to an
end. They played three Twenty20 Internationals in Mumbai and one Test in Navi
Mumbai. While the ODIs are day-night matches that begin at 1.30 pm IST, all
T20Is, including those against Australia and England, are night games that
begin at 7 pm IST.
As has been customary in women’s cricket, both Tests
are four-day events. That was not the case during the women’s Ashes, as Trent
Bridge hosted a five-day special Test match, the second of its kind in women’s
cricket history.
The women’s Test match in India since the hosts
defeated South Africa in 2014 will take place against England in a red-ball
match. India has since played two women’s Test matches, one each against
Australia and England, with the latter match being a pink-ball match in 2021.
The two games ended in exciting draws.
All of India’s home cricket matches have taken place
in and around Mumbai ever since Australia’s tour of the country ended late last
year. The Women’s Premier League (WPL) was launched earlier this year, and it
was played across the two venues in Navi Mumbai and Mumbai. The five-match
Twenty20 International series was played at DY Patil Stadium and Brabourne
Stadium last year.
The women’s Ashes rivals’ double series will mark
India’s debut under new head coach Amol Muzumdar.
In addition to the international series, India A and
England A have three Twenty20 matches scheduled at Wankhede Stadium between
November 29 and December 3. Each of those matches has an afternoon start time
of 1.30 pm IST.
