[Saba Sports News] Carmelo Anthony aims to join an NBA ownership group in the future but is starting with overseas ownership. The National Basketball League (NBL) announced Monday that Anthony will become an owner of a planned expansion team in Australia or New Zealand. He will also serve as a global ambassador for the NBL’s Next Stars program, which has produced talents like LaMelo Ball and Josh Giddey.
In an interview with Marc J. Spears of Andscape, Anthony expressed that his involvement with the NBL is a stepping stone toward NBA ownership.
“If I can get in and allow myself to start from the bottom, to understand how the business really works in another part of the world — coming back to the U.S. I already know this game,” Anthony said. “I already know this industry, this business, and I’m learning day to day. So, my goal is to help develop all over the world and then try to bring everything together where it makes sense.”
Anthony, who has ventured into various business interests, is passionate about this opportunity. Notably, one of his close friends shares a similar ambition, which could lead to a future joint venture.
