[Saba Sports News] In a groundbreaking moment for the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Catherine Dalton has been appointed as the fast-bowling coach for Multan Sultans. This historic move makes her the first female coach in PSL history and the first female coach for a top-level men’s team. The official announcement is expected shortly.
Catherine Dalton, aged 30, originally from England and an Irish citizen since 2015, is no stranger to Pakistan, having visited the country on two previous occasions. During her previous trips, she worked closely with several fast bowlers, including notable names like Mohammad Ilyas, Sameen Gul, and Arshad Iqbal, and also contributed to the development of Under-19 players.
With her ECB-certified Level 3 Advanced Coach qualification, Dalton boasts a wealth of coaching experience. She has previously held coaching roles at the national fast-bowling academy in the UK and the Ultimate Pace Foundation in India. Her coaching resume also includes working with renowned players like Deepak Chahar. Notably, Dalton served as the assistant head coach at the National Fast-Bowling Academy in the UK, working alongside Ian Pont and Andre Nel.
Expressing her enthusiasm about this new role, Dalton said, “Having worked in Pakistan with some of the Multan Sultans players during my two previous visits, I am thrilled to officially join the franchise for the PSL. I am fully aware of the groundbreaking nature of this opportunity for a female fast-bowling coach in a major men’s T20 franchise. I am deeply honored and look forward to contributing on multiple levels.”
Multan Sultans’ owner, Ali Tareen, had unwavering confidence in Dalton’s coaching abilities. He highlighted her integral role in the franchise’s player development program over the past five years. Having closely observed her work with young players and their significant improvement, Tareen expressed his trust in her capabilities.
“Catherine has been an integral part of our player development program for nearly five years. I have witnessed firsthand how she has positively impacted players. I always believed she would excel as a fast-bowling coach at a high level. I am delighted that her first opportunity has come with the Sultans,” Tareen concluded.
With the PSL scheduled to take place from February 8 to March 24, 2024, Multan Sultans are gearing up for another thrilling season, with Catherine Dalton as their fast-bowling coach, marking a historic moment in the realm of cricket coaching.
