[Saba Sports News] After securing a 108-105 victory against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday, Oklahoma City Thunder star Chet Holmgren playfully took aim at the NBA’s scorekeepers and statisticians.
Holmgren had an impressive performance with 16 points, 13 rebounds, two assists, and seven blocks in the game but felt he didn’t receive full credit for his efforts. In a post on social media, he directed a message at the NBA, requesting a review of the game tape to ensure the correct number of blocks was recorded. He stated, ‘please go watch the tape and give me the correct # of blocks. Idc about stats but I worked hard af for those😂good W thunder up lol,’ using some shorthand in his post.
Holmgren’s seven blocks set a Thunder franchise record for blocks by a rookie, an achievement he takes pride in. Despite a challenging start to the season, he wanted the NBA to accurately reflect his performance.
Both Holmgren and Oklahoma City fans believe he should be credited with even more blocks against the Cavaliers. Whether the league makes any adjustments to the statistics following this light-hearted protest remains to be seen.
The 21-year-old Holmgren was the second overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft but missed his first season due to a Lisfranc injury. Now back and healthy, he is determined to showcase why he was highly touted coming out of college.
Holmgren’s next opportunity to add to his block and rebound numbers comes when Oklahoma City hosts the Denver Nuggets at the Paycom Center on Sunday.
