[Saba Sports News] The Curran brothers from England have each carved out impressive cricket careers, with distinct paths. While Tom and Sam Curran have thrived in England, their middle brother, Ben, is returning to his Zimbabwean roots.
Born to Zimbabwean cricket legend Kevin Curran, the Curran brothers spent their early years in Rusape, Zimbabwe.
After their father’s sudden death in 2012, they moved to England, where Tom and Sam rose to prominence with Surrey and the national team.
Ben, however, followed a different path. After playing for Northamptonshire, the 28-year-old is now committed to playing in Zimbabwe, where he is eligible for national selection.
His recent standout performances in Zimbabwe’s Logan Cup, scoring 458 runs, including a century and two half-centuries, highlight his potential.
Ben reflects on his strong connection to Zimbabwe, having spent most of his childhood there. “I think my accent would give it away, but my roots in Zimbabwe are deep. I grew up there, went to school there, and both my parents are from there,” he shared.
The prospect of representing Zimbabwe internationally is exciting for Ben, especially with the potential of playing against one of his brothers when Zimbabwe faces England in a one-off Test next year.
“What a story it would be. It would be weird, special, and full of mixed emotions, especially for mum,” he said.
Following in his father’s footsteps, who played for both Zimbabwe and Northamptonshire, Ben hopes to make his mark in Zimbabwean cricket.
“I’ve got to perform consistently and control what I can. If I do that, the opportunities will come,” he concluded.
Currently preparing for the upcoming season with Mid-West Rhinos, Ben remains focused on delivering his best and achieving his goal of representing Zimbabwe.
