[Saba Sports News] Pakistan’s fielding woes were on full display during their ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match against Afghanistan, held on Monday, October 23 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Opting to bat first, Babar Azam’s team managed to post a respectable total of 282/7 in their allotted 50 overs, with Captain Babar leading the way with 74 runs from 92 balls.
In response, Afghanistan got off to a fantastic start, with openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran forging a formidable 130-run partnership for the first wicket. Throughout their stand, Pakistan’s fielding appeared lackluster, marked by several errors.
One such incident occurred during the 16th over, bowled by Shadab Khan, when Gurbaz played a pull shot towards wide long-on. Shaheen Afridi, stationed at the boundary, made a quick attempt to reach the ball.
However, he ended up running too far ahead and missed the ball, allowing it to race to the boundary. Mohammad Rizwan, the wicketkeeper, was seen hiding his face with his glove in frustration at Afridi’s sloppy fielding.
