[Saba Sports News] The Duleep Trophy will revert to its traditional zonal format after the BCCI’s AGM concluded that the current format, featuring India A, B, C, and D teams, did not serve its purpose.
State associations expressed dissatisfaction with the current selection process, and discussions suggested that deserving players were overlooked. From next year, the tournament will be held on an inter-zonal basis, with teams selected from BCCI’s six zones—East, South, West, North, Central, and North-East.
In a notable decision, the BCCI resolved to maintain its legal status as a non-profit society, rejecting any offers to sell stakes or raise funds publicly.
The AGM passed the resolution, asserting that the BCCI’s tournaments, including the IPL, will not be converted into a company.
Other key decisions included the appointment of Arun Singh Dhumal and Avishek Dalmiya to the IPL Governing Council, the approval of the FY 2024-25 budget, and the adoption of IPL player auction rules for the 2025-2027 cycle.
