[Saba Sports News] Bronny James made headlines on Friday by declaring for the NBA Draft, but consensus seems to lean towards him not turning professional next season. In his announcement, James emphasized his intention to maintain college eligibility, indicating a possible return to academia. According to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony, the prevailing expectation among NBA teams is that James will opt to continue his college career.
Before James can participate in any draft-related activities, he must receive medical clearance. If granted, he has until June 16 to finalize his decision regarding the draft.
NCAA regulations allow a player to declare for the draft and withdraw their name up to two times without forfeiting college eligibility.
Given that James played a limited role at USC in his freshman year, it wouldn’t be unexpected if he chose to pursue another year of college basketball. The question of where he might play his sophomore year is still open.
James has entered the transfer portal, and while a return to USC under new head coach Eric Musselman is a possibility, Duquesne University is also a contender due to its connections with LeBron James.
During his time with USC, James contributed an average of 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists across 25 games, logging 19.4 minutes per game. The Trojans finished the season with a 15-18 record.
