[Saba Sports News] On Sunday, Milwaukee Bucks’ superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo got his first taste of playing alongside Damian Lillard, and it’s clear that Giannis is eagerly anticipating the upcoming season. He took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to share a photo of himself, Damian Lillard, and Khris Middleton, along with the caption: ‘The season can’t start soon enough,’ accompanied by a deer emoji and a flexing bicep.
This dynamic Bucks duo made their debut together in a preseason matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers. Giannis led the way with 16 points in the Bucks’ 108-97 road victory, while Lillard contributed 14 points on 3-of-10 shooting, including 2-for-7 from beyond the arc.
Giannis played for 15 minutes, while Lillard saw over 22 minutes of action before exiting the game in the third quarter.
Lillard’s move to the Bucks was the blockbuster trade of the NBA offseason, instantly reestablishing Milwaukee as title contenders. Despite winning the NBA championship in the 2020-21 season, the Bucks had struggled in the playoffs since.
Giannis had raised concerns during the offseason by delaying an extension with the team he had spent his entire career with. He wanted assurance that the franchise was as committed to championship contention as he was.
The acquisition of another superstar in Lillard clearly signals the Bucks’ determination to compete for titles. Fortunately for Bucks fans, it appears that this trade has reinvigorated Giannis and ignited his excitement for the upcoming 2023-24 season alongside his new teammate.
