[Saba Sports News] In ICC World Cup 2023’s 24th match, Australia faced off against Netherlands at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium. Australian captain Pat Cummins, after winning the toss, chose to bat first on a flat pitch.
Australia’s innings had a shaky start as opener Mitchell Marsh fell early to Logan van Beek. David Warner and Steven Smith then cautiously built a solid partnership before shifting gears. They put together a 132-run partnership before Smith was caught by van der Merwe off Aryan Dutt.
Marnus Labuschagne joined Warner and played an explosive innings, scoring 62 runs off 47 balls. Warner, on the other hand, notched a brilliant century with 104 runs off 93 balls. Glenn Maxwell then took the stage and smashed his way to the fastest century in World Cup history, reaching the milestone in just 40 balls. His explosive knock of 106 runs off 44 balls included nine fours and eight sixes, powering Australia to a formidable total of 399.
Despite recent struggles with the bat, Maxwell’s spectacular performance entertained fans. Logan van Beek was the standout bowler for the Netherlands, taking four wickets in his ten-over spell. The Dutch team now faces the challenging task of chasing down the imposing target of 400 runs.
