In a thrilling CPL 2024 encounter, the Guyana Amazon Warriors came heartbreakingly close to breaking the all-time highest team total in the Caribbean Premier League. Set by the Trinbago Knight Riders at a staggering 267/2 in 2019, the Warriors were on track to surpass this record but fell agonizingly short by just one run, posting 266/7 against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots.
This explosive innings featured some standout performances, particularly from opener Saim Ayub, who smashed an impressive 79 runs off 40 balls. Alongside him, Keacy Carty provided solid support with a brisk 50 off 23 deliveries, while the middle-order power-hitting kept the scoreboard ticking.
Despite these valiant efforts, the Warriors couldn’t quite eclipse the monumental record held by Trinbago Knight Riders, but they did leave a lasting mark on the match.
St Kitts & Nevis Patriots’ chase was led by their captain, Andre Fletcher, who put up a valiant fight with a rapid 81 off 33 balls. However, despite his explosive innings, the Patriots eventually fell short, primarily due to the spinning brilliance of Gudakesh Motie and veteran Imran Tahir. Motie’s three wickets, including the crucial dismissal of Fletcher, halted the Patriots’ charge, while Tahir’s clever leg-spin caused further damage.
This match has been a highlight of the CPL 2024 season, with fans treated to a showcase of aggressive batting, thrilling chases, and quality spin bowling. Although the record remains with the Knight Riders, the Warriors’ near miss serves as a reminder of the incredible talent and competitive spirit present in this year’s CPL.
