[Saba Sports News] It is not a good news that is coming out of Pune, the battlefield of India’s World Cup clash against Bangladesh.
India star all-rounder injured himself while bowling as serious concerns now lie with regard to his fitness for the remainder of the World Cup 2023.
Bowling the ninth over of the first innings, Pandya twisted his left ankle, trying to stop a boundary in his followthrough. This did not turn out well for him as he hobbled off the field and did not take part any further in the match.
Virat Kohli had to complete Pandya’s over and bowled three deliveries, giving away two runs.
Pandya was taken to the hospital to get the scans done that would reveal the extent of his injury.
He was seen in the dressing room when India were batting in the second innings.
In the post-match presentation, India captain Rohit Sharma confirmed that Pandya’s injury is not serious, however, they would need assess him tomorrow morning.
In a worst-case scenario, Pandya’s injury could hurt India a lot. If gets ruled out of the World Cup or miss a few games, India does not have another all-rounder to fill this void.
In any case, they would have to compromise on batting depth or bowling quality in case Pandya is not available.
Meanwhile, India have extended their winning streak to four games, defeating Bangladesh by seven wickets on Thursday. Rohit and Co. will next face New Zealand in Dharamsala on October 22.
