[Saba Sports News] Harry Brook will step up as England’s captain for the first time in his career during the upcoming ODI series against Australia. Brook takes on the role following Jos Buttler’s withdrawal from the five-match series due to injury.
Buttler, also sidelined from the T20Is, is still recovering from a calf injury he sustained earlier. His absence has also paved the way for Liam Livingstone’s return to the ODI squad, rewarded for his standout performances in the T20I series, where he claimed five wickets and smashed 87 off 47 balls in the second match.
Buttler, who last played in the T20 World Cup semifinal against India in late July, now aims to return for England’s tour of the Caribbean in November. Brook, who previously captained England in the 2018 Under-19 World Cup and recently served as Ollie Pope’s deputy in the Test series against Sri Lanka, will now lead the side.
The ECB also announced that young pacer Josh Hull, who debuted in the final Test against Sri Lanka, has been ruled out of the squad due to a quad injury. The ODI series begins on September 19 at Trent Bridge.
