[Saba Sports News] Former England captain Eoin Morgan heaped praise on young stand-in skipper Harry Brook for his impressive leadership in the ongoing ODI series against Australia.
Morgan highlighted Brook’s exceptional captaincy as a big boost for the England team, especially during a transitional phase.
Despite England trailing 2-1 in the series, Brook’s leadership has been a standout positive. He has made smart decisions with field placements and bowling changes, showing creativity that paid off, particularly in the third ODI where England staged a strong comeback.
Brook not only captained well but also led by example, smashing a brilliant century to guide his team to victory.
Morgan lauded Brook’s ability to outsmart the world champions, marking it as a significant step forward for both Brook and England. Morgan emphasized how Brook’s clarity and decisiveness, paired with his match-winning ton, have instilled confidence in the team.
“Yeah, exceptional, I thought and needed. I think it’s during this period of transition for a very young England white ball team, it’s important that you get your message, your delivery, and your clarity right, but it all gets watered down if you can’t see it in front of you, and beating the world champions, the best side in the world in the manner that they did.”
“I think I will breed a huge amount of confidence, a huge amount of belief, and it will add weight to the words of Harry Brook and Marcus Trescothick, so massive strides forward for this England team and Harry Brook’s captaincy.”
He also noted Brook’s clever tactics, like his strategic field placement that led to Cameron Green’s wicket, showcasing the youngster’s growing confidence as both a captain and player.
“I thought he captained exceptionally well, particularly when Jacob Bethell was on, he tried to create something when nothing was on offer, and it worked. They got the big wicket at Cameron Green in that silly position of a short mid-on, and he just seemed to be growing a little bit in confidence, and that certainly led to his batting as well. “I thought he was outstanding scoring his maiden ODI 100, and England’s side today will now have grown in confidence and turn up here thinking that they can go 2-1,” he concluded.
Brook’s maiden ODI century, combined with his tactical prowess, has injected belief in the squad, as they aim to level the series.
