Harry Brook stated that England won’t be overly concerned about losing wickets in the pursuit of quick runs, despite their heavy defeat to Australia in the first ODI at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, on Thursday, September 19.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat, England reached a strong position at 168/1 in the 25th over, thanks to a 120-run partnership between Ben Duckett (95) and Will Jacks (62).
However, the middle order faltered, and England were bowled out for 315 in 49.4 overs, with several batters caught at the boundary attempting big hits.
Brook, leading England for the first time, was unfazed by the aggressive approach, saying those shots would clear the ropes on another day.
“We’re out there to score runs. If you get caught on the boundary, who cares? On another day, it could be a six, so I’m not too fussed. Obviously, the pitch had some grip, but on another day, we hit those for six. We want to entertain. Obviously, we care, but getting out trying to score is how we want to play,” Brook told BBC Sport.
Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne Lead Australia to Victory
After Australian captain Mitchell Marsh fell early, Travis Head and Steve Smith put together a 76-run stand.
Liam Livingstone dismissed Smith for 32, but Cameron Green’s 32-run knock and a match-winning 148-run partnership between Head and Marnus Labuschagne sealed the game for Australia.
Head finished unbeaten on 154 from 129 balls, while Labuschagne contributed 77 off 61, as Australia chased down the target with seven wickets and six overs to spare.
