[Saba Sports News] Pakistan’s struggling performance in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup has suffered another setback, as the team has been penalized for a slow over rate during their recent match against South Africa.
In Chennai, the Asian side fell four overs short during South Africa’s batting innings, resulting in a 20 percent deduction from their match fee. According to the ICC Code of Conduct, players face a fine of five percent of their match fee for each over that goes unbowled within the designated time.
The charge was imposed by on-field umpires Alex Wharf and Paul Reiffel, alongside third umpire Richard Illingworth and fourth umpire Richard Kettleborough following Pakistan’s loss to South Africa. Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, accepted the sanction.
Pakistan has only managed to win two out of six matches in this year’s World Cup, and the team, who were champions in 1992, must win their remaining three matches to have any hope of making it to the semi-finals. Their next match will take place in Kolkata on Tuesday, where Pakistan will face Bangladesh in a crucial must-win encounter.
