Ishan Kishan is not expected to start the Duleep Trophy opener, therefore his return to the first-class fold is likely to be delayed.
After playing two games for Jharkhand at the pre-season Buchi Babu Invitational in Tamil Nadu earlier this month—his first multi-day games in over a year—Kishan, who was named in the Shreyas Iyer-led India D, is thought to have complained of a hamstring ache.
The only other wicketkeeper on the India D team is KS Bharat, and no cover has been picked as of yet. On September 5, in Anantapur, they will play the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led India C in the tournament’s opening match.
On match night, Kishan had not yet been added to the team. The extent of Kishan’s injury will probably determine whether or not to replace him.
Prasidh Krishna, an India A fast bowler, will not be available due to his ongoing recovery from a quadriceps injury. After a four-month rehabilitation, Prsaidh is back to bowling full force, but the National Cricket Academy trainers want to go slowly because he has been sidelined by injuries for the majority of two seasons.
Prasidh is seen to be getting close to being fully match fit. He last competed for India on the South Africa trip in December and January. He might still be involved in the Duleep Trophy’s final stages, which precede the Ranji Trophy.
The absence of Kishan and Prasidh brings the total number of elite Indian players who have been disqualified from the competition for various reasons to an increasing number. Suryakumar Yadav’s return to red-ball cricket had to be postponed earlier this week due to a hand bruise he sustained while representing Mumbai in the Buchi Babu event in Coimbatore.
Before then, Ravindra Jadeja was left out of the India B team, and Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik, two fast bowlers, had been ruled out due to dengue disease. India B picked Navdeep Saini as Siraj’s successor, while India C called up Puducherry fast bowler Gourav Yadav to take Umran’s position.
On September 5, the Duleep Trophy’s opening round will take place in Bengaluru and Anantapur. Several of the best players in the Indian Test team, like as Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Kuldeep Yadav, will play in this one and only game before they head home to prepare for the country’s Test season, which kicks off against Bangladesh in Chennai on September 19.
