[Saba Sports News] The eagerly awaited Indian Premier League player auction for the 2024 season is set to take place in Dubai on December 19. In a historic move, this edition of the auction will mark the first time it’s being held overseas, adding an extra layer of intrigue and anticipation for fans and teams alike.
One of the key talking points leading up to the auction is the substantial increase in each franchise’s purse. Every team has been granted a hefty purse of INR 100 crore (approximately USD 12.02 million), signifying a significant boost from the previous edition’s purse, which stood at INR 95 crore. This additional INR 5 crore allocation is expected to add extra excitement and competition to the auction process, as teams strive to assemble the most competitive squads for the upcoming season.
However, it’s important to note that the purse for each team is not static but subject to change. The final purse for each franchise will be determined on the auction day, taking into account several factors. These include the value of players that teams have released from their squads and any unutilized funds carried over from the 2023 edition. This dynamic approach ensures that teams have the flexibility to adapt and make strategic decisions based on their specific needs and goals for the season.
As things stand, Punjab Kings currently possess the largest purse, boasting an impressive INR 12.20 crore (equivalent to USD 1.47 million). In stark contrast, the Mumbai Indians, who have clinched the IPL title five times, possess the smallest purse, a modest INR 0.05 crore (approximately USD 0.006 million). The disparities in purse sizes among teams add an intriguing element to the auction proceedings, as teams with more funds at their disposal may have a competitive advantage in securing their preferred players.
The distribution of purse sizes among other franchises is as follows: Sunrisers Hyderabad boasts a purse of INR 6.55 crore (USD 0.79 million), while both the Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals have INR 4.45 crore (USD 0.54 million) each. The Lucknow Super Giants have INR 3.55 crore (USD 0.43 million), Rajasthan Royals possess USD 3.35 crore (USD 0.40 million), Royal Challengers Bangalore hold INR 1.75 crore (USD 0.21 million), Kolkata Knight Riders have INR 1.65 crore (USD 0.2 million), and the defending champions, Chennai Super Kings, maintain a purse of INR 1.5 crore (USD 0.18 million).
With the auction date drawing near and the anticipation building, cricket enthusiasts and team strategists alike eagerly await this significant event that will shape the future of the IPL in the 2024 season.
