[Saba Sports News] India’s leading pacer Jasprit Bumrah praised Akash Deep after the second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur.
Following an impressive debut against England earlier in the year, where he secured three wickets, Akash excelled in the Duleep Trophy. His strong performances earned the Bengal pacer a spot in India’s squad for the Bangladesh series.
In the series, he provided crucial breakthroughs and took five wickets in two matches, earning accolades from India captain Rohit Sharma.
Bumrah highlighted Akash’s eagerness to learn and the energy he brings to his bowling.
“Yeah, he comes up to me quite a lot. You know, before a spell, he asks me what is happening. What do you think I should do? So we’ve had a lot of interesting conversations,” Bumrah told the broadcaster. “With the energy he brings onto the ball, he gives his absolute best on the field and as well as when he’s bowling.”
He added, “So he’s got a lot of heart. So that’s a great sign for us going forward as well. And whenever he comes into bowling he gives his absolute best. So yes, I’m very happy with the way he’s progressing and hopefully, he goes from strength to strength.”
Captain Rohit Sharma also lauded Akash after the game, noting his success in domestic cricket and emphasizing that he has what it takes to excel at the national level.
“He’s been good. Lot of domestic cricket he has played. When you come up through the ranks like that, there are a lot of overs in the legs,” Rohit said during the post-match presentation. “We know the guy can do the job the team is expecting. He has the quality and the skill. Good body as well—can bowl long spells and can bowl quick as well. That’s what the idea is. We want to create a bunch of bowlers who are ready to play.”
Rohit added that Akash’s physique and ability to bowl long spells are essential attributes in Test cricket.
