[Saba Sport News] Afghanistan’s coach, Jonathan Trott, believes his team can bring joy to their fans during the ODI World Cup, especially after a devastating earthquake in which over 2000 people lost their lives.
During their recent match against India at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, the Afghan team wore black armbands to remember the earthquake victims.
Star all-rounder Rashid Khan has announced that he will donate all his match fees from the World Cup to assist those affected, and his foundation has already raised over £30,000 in an emergency appeal. Trott mentioned that the team held a meeting after learning about the disaster, and many players decided to donate their match fees to help those in need.
He mentioned that while none of the players’ families have been directly affected, their thoughts are with the affected people. The coach emphasized that the players are determined to make their country proud through their performances in the tournament.
Trott, who played for England 75 times in limited-overs internationals and 52 times in Test cricket, is facing his former team for the second time as a coach. “The players understand that their performances can bring happiness to the country, and they want their fellow countrymen and women to be proud of them. We have seven more games in this World Cup, and we have plenty of opportunities to perform well and make Afghanistan proud. There’s no extra motivation needed; it’s just another team that we hope to defeat,” Trott added.
