[Saba Sports News] Kevin Durant’s decision to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder and join the stacked Golden State Warriors remains a topic of controversy. Some fans believe that joining a championship-caliber team to win an NBA title is unfair and should impact how legacies are perceived. This has set Durant apart from other Warriors legends like Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green. As discussions about jersey retirement resurface, Durant has shared his thoughts on how his legacy should be viewed in the Bay Area.
Durant expressed, “Look at the résumé. That would warrant me to get a jersey retirement, right? Do I want to be honored by a franchise I put work in for? Of course, I would love that. I had some great moments there. I built some solid relationships there,” in response to questions about the Warriors retiring his jersey.
He also emphasized that his move to the Warriors was about more than just winning championships, saying, “I love that organization, man. I love my time there, seriously… I’ve played there without the fans and I played against them in an arena where they were the visiting team. But definitely, Bay Area fans are one of a kind. So, I know they’re going to show love, but I’m not expecting anything extra, to be honest.”
While Durant now plays for the Phoenix Suns and aims to achieve more success with his current team, his legacy in the NBA will always be associated with his move from the Thunder to the Warriors. The question remains: should his legacy be regarded in the same light as that of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green?
