[Saba Sports News] The Los Angeles Lakers have signed free agent guard Quinndary Weatherspoon, as reported by Chris Haynes of Yahoo! Sports. Weatherspoon, who spent last season with the Tianjin Pioneers in China, returns to the NBA after his stint in China.
Weatherspoon, a former All-SEC First Team player at Mississippi State, was selected by the San Antonio Spurs in the second round of the 2019 NBA Draft (49th overall). He has three seasons of NBA experience, split between the Spurs and the Golden State Warriors. Weatherspoon was part of the Golden State Warriors’ 2022 NBA championship-winning team, appearing in 11 games that season.
While Weatherspoon’s career average is just 2.1 points per game, his signing bolsters the Lakers’ backcourt depth following recent roster cuts, including the departure of the son of an NBA legend.
