[Saba Sports News] The Board of Control for Cricket in India is all set to host the Indian Premier League (IPL) mini auction for the 17th season internationally for the first time in history. Dubai has been selected as the venue for the upcoming auction, which will take place on December 19 at the Coca-Cola Arena.
Additionally, franchises now have time until November 26 to finalize their retention lists, which is an extension from the previous deadline of November 15. Notably, each team will now have a salary purse of Rs 100 Crore (USD 12.02 million approximately), an increase of Rs 5 Crore as per the BCCI’s announcement prior to the 2022 mega auction.
Currently, the Punjab Kings franchise has the largest purse to spend, with INR 12.20 crore (USD 1.47 million), followed by Sunrisers Hyderabad who have a noteworthy purse of 6.55 crores (USD 0.79 million). Meanwhile, both the Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals hold a purse of 4.45 crores (about USD 0.54 million), whereas Lucknow Supergiants and Rajasthan Royals can spend up to 3.55 crores (USD 0.43 million) and 3.35 crores (USD 0.40 million) respectively.
Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders have an allowance of 1.75 crores (USD 0.21 million) and 1.65 crores (USD 0.2 million) respectively, while the defending champions, Chennai Super Kings, have a purse of 1.5 crores (USD 0.18 million). The five-time IPL champions, Mumbai Indians, recently traded Romario Shepherd from Lucknow Supergiants and now find themselves with the smallest remaining purse among all the 10 teams with just 0.05 crore (USD 0.006 million) left.
Interestingly, the player’s auction will be held on the same day as India’s second ODI match of the upcoming series against South Africa, scheduled on December 19 in Gqeberha.
