[Saba Sports News] West Indies all-rounder Romario Shepherd has been traded from Lucknow Supergiants (LSG) to Mumbai Indians (MI) ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Shepherd served the Lucknow-based franchise in only one match during the IPL 2023, and in the upcoming season, he will feature in MI’s blue jersey.
The Caribbean cricketer became the first player on Friday, November 3, to be shifted through a trading window for the upcoming IPL edition. Notably, the deadline for IPL teams to submit the list of retained and released players is November 26.
The IPL issued a statement to officially announce Shepherd’s transfer to Mumbai Indians for a sum of INR 50 lakh.
“Romario Shepherd has been traded to Mumbai Indians (MI) from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) during the ongoing TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) trading window ahead of the TATA IPL 2024. Shepherd, who has played 4 IPL matches, representing LSG and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), was traded to MI for his existing fee of INR 50 Lakh,” IPL media advisory statement read.
Speaking of Shepherd’s IPL records, the all-rounder has only taken three wickets in four matches with an average and economy rate of 32.67 and 10.89 respectively. With the bat, he has scored 58 runs.
The 28-year-old is all set to join his third IPL franchise team after Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants.
With this trade, Mumbai Indians are now left with a purse of only INR 5 lakh for IPL 2024. However, it is expected that the five-time IPL champions would release more players to strengthen their buying power in the upcoming IPL auction, which will be held in December in Dubai.
