[Saba Sports News] In the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Pakistan faced off against Bangladesh in Match 31 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Bangladesh, choosing to bat first, managed to score only 204 runs in 45.1 overs. Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Wasim Jr stood out with three wickets each. A comical moment unfolded during the match when Pakistan’s wicketkeeper, Mohammad Rizwan, asked Taskin Ahmed if he had edged the ball before deciding to review the umpire’s decision.
This incident occurred on the first ball of the 43rd over, bowled by Shaheen Afridi. Taskin attempted a flick, but the ball ended up brushing his pad before reaching Rizwan behind the stumps. Afridi and Rizwan immediately appealed for a caught-behind, which was initially denied by the on-field umpire. Subsequently, they consulted with captain Babar Azam to review the decision. In a humorous twist, Rizwan even turned to Taskin for confirmation, leaving commentator Ravi Shastri amused.
Bangladesh faced a challenging start to their innings, with Afridi dismissing opener Tanzid Hasan for a duck in the very first over. He continued his excellent performance by dismissing Najmul Hossain Shanto in his second over, getting him caught at short mid-wicket. Bangladesh struggled further as Haris Rauf dismissed Mushfiqur Rahim, leaving them at 23/3 after six overs.
Despite their early setbacks, Litton Das, Mahmudullah, and Shakib Al Hasan played vital innings to keep Bangladesh competitive. However, Pakistan’s seamers dominated, taking eight wickets in total. Shaheen Afridi (3/23, 9 overs) and Mohammad Wasim Jr (3/31, 8.1 overs) claimed three wickets each, while Haris Rauf (2/36, 8 overs) chipped in with two wickets.
