[Saba Sports News] The NBA is adopting a strategy from the NFL. On Monday, the league announced that this year’s draft will be spread over two days. The first round will take place on Wednesday, June 26, followed by the second round on Thursday, June 27.
Adam Schefter of ESPN noted that this is the first time in NBA history that the draft has been divided into two days. The NBA is following the example of the NFL and MLB, whose drafts span multiple days. However, while the NFL Draft has over 250 selections and the MLB Draft over 600, the NBA Draft has only 58 selections (60 without tampering violations).
This move is risky for the NBA, as the second round is typically less exciting, and the 2024 draft class is considered weak. Nonetheless, some current All-Stars like Nikola Jokic, Jalen Brunson, Khris Middleton, and Draymond Green were second-round picks, and notable names are projected to go in that range this year too.
