[Saba Sports News] After Bangladesh’s recent loss to the Netherlands in the ODI World Cup 2023, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is contemplating significant changes to their coaching setup in response to the team’s poor performance in the tournament. The latest update reveals that head coach Chandika Hathurusingha and assistant coach Nick Pothas will remain with the team, unaffected by the BCB’s decisions.
However, fast bowling coach Allan Donald and spin bowling coach Rangana Herath are unlikely to receive contract extensions from the BCB. Additionally, Bangladesh team analyst Shrinivas Chandrasekaran will depart after the ODI World Cup, declining an extension offer due to personal reasons. The team’s fielding coach, Shane McDermott, is also uncertain about receiving a contract extension, as the BCB is reportedly dissatisfied with his performance.
Bangladesh’s ODI World Cup 2023 campaign has been disappointing, with the team suffering five consecutive losses. Skipper Shakib Al Hasan acknowledged it as one of their worst World Cup performances despite their potential for better results. Notably, the BCB has a history of changing coaches, having parted ways with former English coach Steve Rhodes.
Taskin Ahmed, a key Bangladeshi pacer, commented on the coaching changes, stating that such decisions are between the coaches and boards and don’t directly impact the players. He emphasized that all coaches who have worked with the team have contributed positively to its growth, and departures are often based on various factors.
Ahmed highlighted the amicable nature of Rhodes’ departure, emphasizing that coaches have played a helpful role in the team’s development over time.
