[Saba Sports News] During England’s match against South Africa in the ODI World Cup 2023 at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on October 21, ace pacer Reece Topley suffered a finger injury while attempting to stop a powerful drive by Rassie van der Dussen.
Topley was hit on the finger by the ball, cutting it near the nail on the fourth ball of the seventh over. He bowled one more ball but gave away a boundary before leaving the field for treatment.
In terms of the match, England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and chose to field first. Quinton de Kock, however, was dismissed early by Topley off the second ball of the game after attempting a powerful drive. The decision was initially ruled in the batter’s favor, but England’s review revealed a gap between the bat and the ground at the moment the ball crossed the bat, leading to a reversal of the decision.
Notably, England was under pressure after a surprising defeat to Afghanistan in their previous ODI World Cup 2023 game at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium, where they were limited to 215 runs while chasing a target of 284.
