For at least another day, the Indian squad will have
to wait before learning the full extent of Hardik Pandya’s injury. In Pune on
Thursday, the all-rounder twisted his left ankle and was only able to bowl
three deliveries during Bangladesh’s innings.
Hardik’s first over of the game, the ninth, was when
the injury happened when he attempted to stop the ball with his leg during the
follow-through. He limped off the pitch with the helpers, and Virat Kohli
eventually finished the over.
Pandya underwent a scan, the results of which are
still awaited, according to a statement made by the Board of Control for
Cricket in India (BCCI). According to sources, the scan data are being
transmitted to a Mumbai specialist, and urther action will be determined based
on the assessment from the Mumbai doctor. Pandya was examined and
then he landed back on the ground. Although it wasn’t necessary, India easily
chased down the 257-run mark set by Bangladesh to win the match by seven
wickets, it is known that he would have batted if it had been essential.
Rohit Sharma downplayed the severity of the injury,
saying, “He pulled up a bit sore, nothing really major to worry about.
We’ll see how he feels tomorrow morning and then plan how to go forward.”
The skipper’s reassurance notwithstanding, sources in
the know do not rule out resting him for the next match against New Zealand in
Dharamsala on October 22.
It has been leant that Pandya is experiencing
significant pain in his ankle. The pain was so intense that he couldn’t
complete the over in the Bangladesh innings after twisting the ankle.
