[Saba Sports News] In the upcoming 27th match of the ODI World Cup, Australia is set to face New Zealand. During a press conference, Australia’s captain, Pat Cummins, responded to a question from an Australian reporter about England’s recent defeat with a chuckle and laughter.
Cummins had earlier referred to New Zealand players as their “good mates” whom they would play against on Saturday in Dharamsala.
The reporter, in a video shared by the ICC, asked Cummins about his feelings regarding England’s recent loss to Sri Lanka. Cummins acknowledged the upcoming game against England and expressed mixed emotions about their defeat.
Cummins responded, “You mentioned close friends in other teams. I imagine you would have been heartbroken to see England suffer defeat. What was your reaction to that?” He smiled and admitted feeling sad about England’s loss but didn’t elaborate further.
As the World Cup unfolds, Australia has been making a comeback after initial setbacks, securing victories against Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and the Netherlands after losses to India and South Africa. They currently hold the fourth spot in the standings with six points.
In their recent game against the Netherlands, Australia achieved impressive milestones, recording the biggest-ever World Cup win with a margin of 390 runs. Glenn Maxwell shone with the fastest century in ODI World Cup history, reaching his hundred in just 40 balls.
David Warner also scored a remarkable century, while Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne contributed quick half-centuries. The Australian bowling unit, led by Adam Zampa, has been exceptional, with Zampa taking three consecutive four-wicket hauls in the last three matches.
Captain Pat Cummins has also played a crucial role with the ball, taking important wickets during the middle overs. New Zealand, on the other hand, has performed well, winning four out of five matches but recently facing a setback against India. As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on these two teams as they aim to secure a place in the semifinals.
