[Saba Sports News] The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has provided an update on the concussion of Shadab Khan, which he sustained during the 26th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against South Africa on Friday, October 27 at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium. Subsequently, Usama Mir replaced Shadab in the match in the second innings against the Proteas as a concussion substitute.
In a press statement released by the PCB on Tuesday, the board stated that the medical panel did not give the green light to Shadab to play against Bangladesh.
“Shadab Khan suffered a concussion in Pakistan’s match vs South Africa. After a thorough assessment, the medical panel had no choice but to rule him out of the match against Bangladesh,” the PCB press release stated.
This information came minutes after Babar Azam, at the time of the toss, announced that the 25-year-old all-rounder would not take the field on Tuesday versus the side led by Shakib-Al-Hasan. It was further mentioned in the release that this was Shadab’s third concussion since September of the previous year.
“This was Shadab’s third concussion since September last year. He had a collision with his Sussex teammate while fielding in the Vitality T20 Blast in May this year and previously during Asia Cup final last year in Dubai, when his head crashed into Asif Ali’s elbow while fielding.”
“Every precaution is being taken, keeping in mind his health and wellbeing. He will continue to be assessed over the coming days,” the statement concluded.
Notably, Pakistan made three changes to their playing XI for their match against the Bangla Tigers. Babar Azam announced at the time of the toss that opening batter Imam-ul-Haq, and all-rounders Shadab and Mohammad Nawaz were replaced by Fakhar Zaman, Usama Mir and Agha Salman.
It is a do-or-die match for both Pakistan and Bangladesh as the loser of this game will be knocked out of the ongoing World Cup.
