[Saba Sports News] Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting is set to finalize a lucrative deal with the IPL franchise Punjab Kings (PBKS).
While no official statements have been made, reports suggest Ponting has signed a multi-year agreement with the team.
It remains uncertain if the current coaching staff, including Sanjay Bangar, Trevor Bayliss, Sunil Joshi, and Charl Langeveldt, will stay on.
Ponting is expected to play a key role in shaping the team’s support staff and player retentions ahead of the IPL 2025 auctions.
With PBKS failing to reach the playoffs since 2014, Ponting faces the challenge of rebuilding the squad, especially with Shikhar Dhawan retiring, leaving the captaincy spot open.
Ponting recently parted ways with Delhi Capitals after seven years, during which he helped guide the team to consistent playoff appearances, including their first IPL final in 2020. Before joining Delhi in 2018, Ponting coached Mumbai Indians in 2015 and 2016.
He also led Washington Freedom to victory in the 2024 Major League Cricket (MLC) season.
