[Saba Sports News] Last week, the Houston Rockets traded Kevin Porter Jr. and two future second-round picks to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Victor Oladipo and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl. This trade was primarily made to part ways with Porter due to an ongoing domestic assault investigation.
As the 2023-24 NBA season approaches, the Rockets made a roster move by waiving Robinson-Earl on Monday, as reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Robinson-Earl, 22, was selected 32nd overall by the New York Knicks in the 2021 NBA Draft and then traded to the Thunder. During his rookie season, he started in 36 of the 49 games he played, averaging 7.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per game while shooting 41.4 percent from the field. He faced injuries, including a foot fracture, that caused him to miss a significant portion of the season.
In the past year, Robinson-Earl also dealt with a sprained ankle and struggled to secure a consistent spot in the Thunder’s rotation, given the team’s offseason moves and the emergence of Chet Holmgren in the frontcourt.
With the Rockets needing to reduce their roster size for the upcoming season, it was expected that Robinson-Earl would be waived after the trade. Unless another team picks him up, he will become an unrestricted free agent, and teams other than the Rockets and Thunder can potentially sign him, perhaps to a two-way contract.
