[Saba Sports News] Sanath Jayasuriya was appointed interim coach of the Sri Lanka team ahead of India’s tour to the island.
Under his guidance, the team made a strong comeback in ODIs, sweeping the three-match series, and continued their success by outclassing New Zealand in the first Test at Galle Stadium.
According to reports, Jayasuriya is expected to have his contract extended for another year due to the team’s recent success. His standout achievement, apart from the India series, was Sri Lanka’s victory over England in the Oval Test.
Sri Lanka Cricket’s CEO, Ashley de Silva, confirmed that negotiations are nearing completion, saying, “We’re in the final stages and should have more news in a few days.”
Angelo Mathews, another veteran, praised Jayasuriya for rejuvenating the team, especially in white-ball cricket.
He appreciated Jayasuriya’s communication and the freedom he gives players, noting, “Sanath has been outstanding as both cricket director and coach. He’s helped us unite under one goal and has done an incredible job developing talent. I wish him the best.”
