[Saba Sports News] Sridharan Sriram, the technical consultant for Bangladesh, has encouraged their batsmen to take a page from Virat Kohli’s book when it comes to constructing their innings. Kohli showcased his class with yet another international century during their match at the Maharashtra Cricket Association stadium in Pune on October 19, helping India secure a comfortable seven-wicket victory.
Kohli’s innings exemplified a masterclass in building an innings, and he toyed with the bowling attack for most of his knock. Bangladesh had a strong start with Liton Kumar Das (66) and Tanzid Tamim (51) putting on a 93-run partnership in 14.4 overs, setting the stage for a substantial total. However, their inability to capitalize on this foundation cost them dearly.
After Tanzid’s dismissal, Bangladesh lost their way, losing quick wickets including Shanto (eight), Mehidy Hasan Miraz (three), and Liton, reducing them to 137-4 in the 28th over.
Bangladesh’s interim ODI skipper, Najmul Hossain, held Liton Kumar Das responsible for squandering his wicket, believing it had a significant impact on the match’s outcome.
Sriram urged his players to learn from Kohli’s approach to building and pacing an innings in ODI cricket. He praised Kohli’s professionalism and emphasized the importance of intent, running between the wickets, and finding gaps.
Sriram expressed disappointment with the batting unit’s performance but maintained his faith in their abilities for the remaining five games of the tournament. He didn’t see anything fundamentally wrong with Liton and the other batsmen, acknowledging that it’s about individuals stepping up and getting scores. While acknowledging the disappointment of losing wickets after a strong start, he emphasized the need for the team to bounce back and stay focused on the upcoming matches in the World Cup.
