[Saba Sports News] In the European Championship
qualifiers, Netherlands secured a 1-0 victory over Greece in an away game,
putting them in a favourable position for qualification. Following the match,
Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk expressed his grievances during an interview
with the media. Van Dijk revealed that he was targeted with a laser pointer
while taking a penalty kick. Furthermore, he was subjected to fans throwing
bottles during the post-match celebration. Additionally, the playing surface
was covered with gravel, making it the worst pitch he has ever played on. It is
disheartening to witness such incidents in a prestigious competition like the European
Championship. Van Dijk emphasised that had the match taken place in
Netherlands, the game would have likely been halted. Some fans speculated that
Greece resorted to such tactics due to their awareness of their inferior skills
compared to their opponents, leading them to employ unsporting measures.
