[Saba Sports News] For the fourth time in his career, Ravichandran Ashwin achieved the remarkable feat of scoring a century and taking a five-wicket haul in the same Test, and for the second consecutive time at his home ground in Chennai.
India bowled Bangladesh out for 234 in the second innings, sealing a 280-run victory in the first Test. After Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Shakib Al Hasan held firm in the opening session of Day 4, Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja broke through, claiming the remaining six wickets. Ashwin’s performance included his 37th five-wicket haul, tying him with Shane Warne for second-most in Test history, behind Muthiah Muralidaran’s 67.
At 38, Ashwin also became the oldest Indian to take a Test five-wicket haul, surpassing Vinoo Mankad’s record from 1955.
After his match-winning performance, Virat Kohli paid tribute to Ashwin by bowing down to him, a moment that quickly went viral on social media.
India captain Rohit Sharma praised Ashwin’s dedication, highlighting his contributions with both bat and ball, and noted how Ashwin’s recent experience batting up the order in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) helped in his century against Bangladesh.
